Terminator Squad WIP

April 29th, 2008

termisquadwip.jpg
I finished up the basics of my terminator squad tonight. Still have some gaps to fill and need to bang up the plastics to make them fit in. 6x Chaos Terminators: Icon of Nurgle, Heavy Flamer, 3x Power Fist, 2x Combi-Melta.

More pics are up in the Death Guard 2008 gallery.

New Chaos Lord (WIP)

April 25th, 2008

newlord1.jpgnewlord2.jpg

Since I am replacing my entire Death Guard army with new FW resin models I figure I might as well start with the HQ; a new chaos lord. I haven’t done any green stuff work on him yet, nor have I damaged the leg bits to make it fit with the resin. I mainly focused on the pose and the theme of many, many “Death’s Heads of Nurgle” trophies (ie: heads).

The body is the FW terminator champion model with the face section bored out via dremel. I disliked how low the original face sat in the armor. The head is from some manner of machine, Tyranid vet I THINK but its been a while (been in the bitz box for a long time). The shoulders are the FW champion ones unmodified. The heads on the rear are cut from another FW shoulder pad. Base was built using the GW 40k Basing Kit and a lot of dremel work.

Still haven’t settled on a new name for my totally re-done army either. I want to avoid using “Chearon Morbidius” again. Was thinking maybe Chearon Brutalis or Decimus Chearon or something.

Forgeworld

April 21st, 2008

They may have some quality control issues as of late with getting stuff shipped, correct items being shipped, and general slowness; however they still offer the same great customer service that I have come to expect from Games Workshop. I called this morning about my shipping mistake and they are going to dispatch my 6 missing power armor conversion sets as soon as they can and let me keep the six extra terminator sets that I got shipped.

Reinforcements have arrived!

April 18th, 2008

Got my ForgeWorld order today. 60 Plague Marines and 10 Plague Terminators worth of resin. I open the box, marvel at how greatly sculpted they are…then realize I got mis-shipped! Instead or my original order of 8 kits of power armor (2 for a friend) and 2 kits of terminator armor I got 2 kits of power armor and 8 terminator kits. Because I really NEED forty terminators. Ah well, I’m sure I can sort it out with ‘em next week. The order was correct, the pick list was correct, just the product was wrong. In the bustle of getting the new models out I assume its not TOO uncommon.

I have a lot on my plate right now so the DG might not see paint for a bit. Participating in a fantasy escalation league with some Wood Elves and starting to prep a Nurgle daemon legion for the Hillbilly Invitational tournament in July. I may or may not have a new chaos lord already built using the resin parts though…(pics soon).

Adepticon 2008

April 16th, 2008

I managed to finally get back to Adepticon this year. The last time I was up there was the very first time the event took place; my how things have changed! With 650+ people there, vendors, GW guests Phil Kelly and Graham McNeill and a ton of great armies it continues to be a showcase event for the US.

Though I wasn’t really prepared for a tournament I managed to scrape together an 1850 list of combined Death Guard and a small Iron Warriors warband (to make points). I played in the RTT on Sunday and went 1-2-0 for the day. Not the best showing, but the list I had was pretty weak and it had been a long time since I played 40k in any sort of tournament setting. The Bell of Lost Souls guys were there all playing heresy-era Death Guard for the Team Tournament and I saw one other heresy Death Guard army in a themed team. Otherwise it seems everybody  has changed to Nidzilla… :)

I am still waiting for my Death Guard conversion kits from Forgeworld. They were officially “released” on the 7th so hopefully by the end of this month I’ll see the package. Until then, not much to update on the site. I have also started a Daemonic Legion for Fantasy so that may get a sub-section here just so I have a place to post pictures and whatnot.

New Site, New Army, Updates!

March 3rd, 2008

As you may have noticed, the site changed. I migrated from a static website to this one working off Wordpress. This change will allow me to update the site more often and is a lot easier to work with in general. I have included a great image gallery as well, though sadly no new pictures just yet. Which brings me to my next point.

New Army: With the release of Forge World plague marines I have decided to simply re-do almost my entire army. This would mark the third time I have started a Death Guard force. The new models are simply too nice to not use. I have never been happy with the metal plague marines so finally I can have the figures I always wanted. Big thanks to Forge World for turning out such wonderful models. Once I have the new figs I will be cycling out the current ones as I paint them. I am likely to sell the current army once this is done and will announce the eBay listing if I decide to do so.

The new site will showcase this process so expect more frequent updates. I know its been a LONG time since anything new happened around here. I was out of the hobby for the most part due to a variety of things, but I am back into things and excited to get started.

Forums: This has been posted on several websites, but the old deathguard.org forums are no more and will not be coming back. The Bolter and Chainsword has a dedicated Nurgle section and that will function as the “official” forum for Death Guard talk. In the next few months there will be a deathguard.org specific skin for the B&C as well. I would like to once again thank all the contributing members of the old forums, especially the moderators. The place seems to be fondly remembered.

Forge World Plague Marines

In addition to the terminator bitz Forge World has announced plague marines. I could not be happier with these sculpts. They capture exactly what Death Guard should look like in my opinion. Love the MKIII armor and the champion thats a direct sculpt of an older piece of artwork. More pictures here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/dgpa.htm
